Kalamazoo and Leeds
AVISTA sponsors annual sessions at the International Congress for Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo (MI), and regularly sponsors sessions at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds (UK). We welcome paper sessions and paper proposals for each of these. Below you will find the Calls for Papers (CFP) and list of speakers (Sessions) for each of these as they become available.
Prizes and Grants for Conference Speakers
The Villard Prize, made possible by the generosity of Robert E. Jamison, is given each year to encourage and support the study of medieval art and technology. This $500 award recognizes an outstanding graduate student participating in an AVISTA session at the ICMS in Kalamazoo. AVISTA’s Prize Committee determines the recipient based on the quality of the graduate student’s CV and abstract, submitted at the time of application to the session.
Villard Prize Winners

2015 Gregory Leighton
AVISTA also offers up to three travel grants of $500 for graduate students, independent scholars, or others without full institutional support speaking in AVISTA-sponsored sessions at Kalamazoo or Leeds. Applicants for travel grants should indicate their eligibility and interest when submitting a conference proposal. Travel grants will be awarded based on eligibility, demonstrated need, and quality of the submitted CV and abstract. Decisions will be announced in the late fall of the year preceding the conference.
